Where are the limits of our body?  What is our body in relation to the space? Why is the contact with our own bodies so close and so far away at the same time?  What happened to our senses?
Workshops with butoh dancer TO-EN will help you to search for the answers to these questions. Workshops sessions will give You opportunities for motion development along with deepening the awareness of your own body, based on the butoh dance technique.
Workshops will include basic training (posture, breathing, endurance exercises), working with senses or expanding the field of physical awareness of the body. Elements of butoh choreography such as "body materials" will also appear.
Practice will be held both inside and outside.

The one and only workshops in Japanese butoh dance for people over 60 in Gdansk, Poland! The project "Senior dancing butoh" is a unique offer created together with the Center for Contemporary Art "Laznia" and a butoh dancer TO-EN. The workshops will include the basic physical training as well as the costume and scenography production. The autumn meetings will be hosted by famous personalities from fashion designers to craftspeople and musicians. The project will end with the final group performance.

TO-EN’S project combines butoh dance and music of a clarinettist Marcin Malinowski. The artists meet to seek the subtle links between the movement and the sound. Body and sound resonate in silence, sometimess motionless. Together they build a pulsating space and fill it. Is this what we see still a movement or just a trail, a blurred image shimmering in a distance?

Project Mélange is a result of a search for a common platform for the butoh dance and photography. The artists ask themselves a question about the dialog between a photographed matter and a matter of the body. They wish to create “a living photography”, a notebook of the surroundings.

The merging of the butoh body and images depicting a process of decay opens new fields of meaning. It raises the biologism of changes around us to another level. 

Mélange asks a question about the identity of a contemporary body. Can the body get a new integrity? Can the body living now in the process of defragmentation reach a new dimension?

Embers is a performance about the strength and violence of contradictions. It opens  a symbolic space for the most extreme oppositions in nature and inside of us.
The intensity of element in a stroke. The silence of forests depths. The heat of humidity filling the air. Coldness. The sweetness of lust  and shame. At the crossing of these forces – a body. Full of passion and gentle. Hungry and insatiable. Sometimes grotesque.
Embers never fade away. Their burning heat enslaves. They annihilate and give life.

TO-EN’s performance is created in collaboration with a Norwegian light designer and a fashion art designer from Cracow. Using body, dance, textile and colour, together they build a vivid space that captivates all the senses.
